From DIY to Broadcast: Pevan and Sarah head to the ABC

Children's edu-tainers Pevan and Sarah took their music video production to the next level at Humdinger Studios.
In July 2025 a giant, friendly tiger named Pevan and his buddy Sarah entered Humdinger Studios in Brunswick. After 10 years of creating popular YouTube kids edutainment videos in their self-built studios - they were ready to take their production to the next level.
They were looking for the right space and the right collaborators to elevate the content they were already making, without the price tag that usually comes with professional LED studio production. In part, as a celebration of 10 successful years, but also with a plan to get their videos to a wider audience via a traditional broadcast.
With Humdinger, ex-school teachers Manny and Sarah found collaborators that could match their ambition.

Safe hands from day one
Pevan & Sarah co-founder Manny Kechayas admits that he wasn't sure what to expect when working with an outside team.
"I must admit coming into those first few meetings I was petrified of the complexities involved," he says.
At Humdinger, we pride ourselves on a flexible and collaborative approach. Which admittedly, every video production company says! But what does this actually mean?
It means we work in two ways. First, we are absolutely open to working with people outside of our usual team. In the case of Pevan and Sarah, we provided a DOP, camera op and a technician to run lighting and the LED wall, but the rest of the crew and creative decisions remained with Pevan & Sarah's team. Second, we are always there to help you get the best result you can. If we don't think something will work, we will let you know, but we will always come to you with a solution.
"I came in pretty all guns blazing. I wanted to move the walls, do this, do that. The guys had to slow me down, which I really appreciate," says Manny.
"They made it so easy to get whatever was in our heads out. It just happened so simply."
Humdinger Studios: The studio that can do it all
What initially attracted Manny to our studio was our LED video wall. An adaptable piece of technology that would allow them to get multiple set ups at the press of a button. And at a fraction of the price of other LED studios.
"Everything we'd done before used a green screen, but when we saw the LED screen we thought we could actually do it live, do different things and really elevate it."
Their ability to duplicate their live show lighting was also a bonus and saved a lot of planning time and creative energy trying to reinvent the wheel.
"The built-in lighting rig was something we immediately recognised. It's what we use in our live show and it's been really successful for us."
Nothing is too hard
Nothing makes us happier at Humdinger Studios than being able to say yes to a client's idea.
"Every vision board I brought in, they looked at and said 'Yep, we can do that.' And they just did it. Nothing was ever too hard, and it was very clear from the start what was possible and what wasn't. Once we worked that out, it was really, really good."
On shoot day, things can get hectic - no less so than when the star of the show is in a very hot, very heavy Tiger costume. But in amongst the nerves and excitement the Humdinger crew ensure that everything ran smoothly.
"Evan always made sure the monitor was showing me exactly what I needed to see. He had so many things to manage, but he always made sure I was looked after from a director's point of view."
"I could constantly see that what I was looking at was pretty much 90% of the finished product."
The Outcome
For Manny the end result was a winner - "It turned out better than we thought!"
Beyond elevating their usual content the Pevan & Sarah team were able to crack a nut they had been working on for many years - a shot on the ABC.
"We'd been in conversations with ABC for quite a long time and pitched many different things. One of the recurring issues was production value. Our DIY stuff in the past didn't seem to cut the mustard."
All that work paid off, with Pevan & Sarah's videos now on ABC iView, with the episodes also set to air in broadcast rotation between kids shows on the ABC channel.
For Manny, the experience was all about finding the right place, and the right team.
"When you work with really talented people, they do really good work. That's the lesson we learned working with you guys."
